If you are reading this and you are just starting a new job, its your lucky day!!
Since we are still in the first quarter of the year, what’s a better way to have a fresh start than to start a new job?! Sometimes us ‘yuppies’ need a change of pace or just a change of scenery due to too much stress. If you have been reading my previous posts, I mention that I just started a new job at an architectural firm. So this is definitely coming from experience.
It being still the start of the year(sort of), its time for new adventures. I know… It may see a bit scary at first, but it’ll be worth it one way or another. I will be dropping a few tips below on how to start your new job RIGHT!
Research Your Employer
When you are entering a new job, you are bound to feel like an outcast at first. Getting out of your comfort zone is GREAT but it doesn’t mean that you can’t put a little effort to get to know the company you will be working for. Background. Bosses. Principles.
Have A Positive Mindset
Always start with a positive attitude. Yes, a new job will be scary at first, but it will definitely be a good kickstart that you might desperately need. Enter the job with no expectations but 100% willingness to learn and experience new possibilities.
When entering a new job, you enter a whole new place of unknown. They will probably have a different set-up, dynamic and pay as your previous one. Never hesitate to ask a colleague or your boss anything. Your questions will only show your willingness to learn and immerse yourself in the office culture.
Plan Your Week
Having a new job doesn’t only mean that you have a new office, but new friends, new environment and new routines. Plan your week on when to spend time with your colleagues and your own personal to do lists like going to the grocery or a dinner out with your non work friends.
Update Your Wardrobe
I believe that the first impressions stick. You will inevitably be judged by what you wear and how you wear it. Lucky for me, I don’t need to come in formal attire but I do try to make a lasting impression with planning and styling my casual work outfits from time to time.
You’re all set!
