You Vs.Society | Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

I know.. We are only human. Even if we don’t intend to, we compare our lives and ourselves to others. It’s become involuntary. I sometimes find myself wondering why I don’t have the same pear shaped body as so and so does or why don’t I have such an interesting job that flies me to places like this person. But on the other hand, we also compare ourselves to others to make ourselves feels better too like “Thank God I am not in her situation.”

Truth be told, it has become so easy lately to get wrapped up in the lives of people when our world revolves around the internet and social media. *guilty* From flawless selfies to galavanting around exotic streets around the world, we see a split second of someone’s life and we then start to think that they have it all together. We then spend time trying to be more like them because we think by doing that, it’ll make us happy. It won’t.

Lets not confuse comparison with inspiration. Well, its pretty normal to be inspired by things we see and people we meet, but when that inspiration turns into comparison, by putting ourselves down and beating ourselves up because we aren’t this ‘ideal’, its not being inspired anymore.

I want you, yes you, to know that you are good enough. And you are worthy of things you do not yet have but will come in the right time. There will always be people who will have more or less than you, who are better or worse than you at something, or who have things that you wish you had or glad you hadn’t. There is no point to compare your life to another, because each life is unique in its own way. Our feats, our struggles are our own and remember those things are what we should be proud of.

The only person you should be comparing yourself to is who you were yesterday and who you are today.

5 Things You Need To Do Right Before You Start A New Job

If you are reading this and you are just starting a new job, its your lucky day!!

Since we are still in the first quarter of the year, what’s a better way to have a fresh start than to start a new job?! Sometimes us ‘yuppies’ need a change of pace or just a change of scenery due to too much stress.  If you have been reading my previous posts, I mention that I just started a new job at an architectural firm. So this is definitely coming from experience.

It being still the start of the year(sort of), its time for new adventures. I know… It may see a bit scary at first, but it’ll be worth it one way or another. I will be dropping a few tips below on how to start your new job RIGHT!

Research Your Employer

When you are entering a new job, you are bound to feel like an outcast at first. Getting out of your comfort zone is GREAT but it doesn’t mean that you can’t put a little effort to get to know the company you will be working for. Background. Bosses. Principles.

Have A Positive Mindset

Always start with a positive attitude. Yes, a new job will be scary at first, but it will definitely be a good kickstart that you might desperately need. Enter the job with no expectations but 100% willingness to learn and experience new possibilities.

Ask Questions

When entering a new job, you enter a whole new place of unknown. They will probably have a different set-up, dynamic and pay as your previous one. Never hesitate to ask a colleague or your boss anything. Your questions will only show your willingness to learn and immerse yourself in the office culture.

Plan Your Week

Having a new job doesn’t only mean that you have a new office, but new friends, new environment and new routines. Plan your week on when to spend time with your colleagues and your own personal to do lists like going to the grocery or a dinner out with your non work friends.

Update Your Wardrobe

I believe that the first impressions stick. You will inevitably be judged by what you wear and how you wear it. Lucky for me, I don’t need to come in formal attire but I do try to make a lasting impression with planning and styling my casual work outfits from time to time.

You’re all set!

11 Simple Ways To Practice Self Love

  1. Find a mirror, look at yourself and smile.

Remind yourself that “I am beautiful, I am worthy and I am enough.”

      2. Reorganize, clean out all your things that are miscellaneous to your life at hand.

I am sure you have some junk lying around your place that you totally don’t need! Don’t be too sentimental over material things and maybe give them to someone who needs them more.

      3. Adopt a morning routine that’ll make you start off your day on a high note.

I usually catch upon my Instagram and Snapchat feeds for a few minutes, change into my gym clothes, check that I have everything needed for my workout then I head out! This isn’t much of a routine, but I usually wake up extra early to workout so the real routine starts after the gym!

      4. Do things that you’re passionate about.

Find your niche interest, build a great idea and share it with passionate people.

      5. Socialize more.

This is something I wish I did more in college. Get out of your bedroom, your projects can wait. Go have some brunch!

6. Make to do lists for the day to complete tasks more efficiently.

Doing this would really help me organize my thoughts and at the end of the day, did I feel accomplished! Seeing all the tasks I have ticked that day!

7. Watch an uplifting TEDtalk.

Here are my favorites! How to live passionately. The power of introverts. Grit: The power of passion and perseverance. Your body language shapes who you are.

8. Take breaks of fresh air through out the day.

Sitting in a desk all day can be quite stressful even if you aren’t putting yourself in any physical activity because your brain is doing all the work! Get out of that chair, grab a coffee and get some fresh air.

9. Make someone feel good. Compliment them and mean it.

Get to know and be aware of the people around you. Make someone smile for a change.

10. Forgive yourself.

Forgive yourself for lacking in self love. Forgive yourself for failing at tasks or making mistakes. Forgive yourself for undervaluing your worth and forgetting how incredible of a person you are.

11. At the end of most days(significant days), write down what you are thankful for.

Remember what you have and how lucky you are to have it. No many people live with a luxury of a loving family and amazing friends, or worse, a home. Stay grateful.
