5 Things You Should Do Right Now To Be Successful

How successful you are really depends on your own definition of success. Are you planning on landing your dream job anytime soon? Maybe open a new business? or just start to have a happy and healthy life? I am guilty of looking at habit and routines of successful women and try to incorporate some that can work for my life as well. But it is definitely easier said than done.

Are you willing to start your own journey for success? Here is what you might want to try.

**Disclaimer: I am not saying that this is the only way for you to become ‘successful’. Choose what works best for you.**

  1. Develop a hobby

I think that having a hobby aside from working your regular 9-5 is so important to have a work-life balance. Find out what you enjoy  doing outside of work and I guarantee you that you won’t regret it! In my case, my hobby is this blog that you are reading right now. This blog has helped me develop my writing and entrepreneurial skills in more ways than one. Aside from my blog, I also enjoy working out and going outdoor trekking. Never stop trying new things!

2. Find a Mentor

I think having a mentor can make a huge difference to your career. He/she doesn’t have to be a CEO or a President of some fancy corporation. But someone who you aspire to be or someone who can push you to achieve your career goals. Always help those who are willing to learn!

3. Surround Yourself With The Right People

I definitely think your journey to success depends on the people you surround yourself with. I think that it is important to create a support team that cheers you on and never doubts you, as you should be for them as well. There will always be some negativity one way or another, but surrounding yourself with equally ambitious people will help you motivated when things get rough! A mentor can also definitely be one of those people!

4. Learn One New Thing A Day

Kind of random but learning one new thing a day will help you boost your brain power. like staying up-to-date with current events! Whether you learn a super random fact, or you are trying to learn one new exotic word from the dictionary, it might just pay off one day.

5. Take Care of Yourself

As your success grows(because it eventually will), you will begin to realize that you aren’t getting any younger and you need to start looking out for yourself more than before. You are your biggest asset and never forget that success can bring some much craziness and happiness into your life. But can also bring stress and depression as well. So know your limits! Relax, work out, keep your body healthy and treat your body like a temple(keep it zen). What a difference it’ll make!

If you are reading this and you are just starting a new job, its your lucky day!!

Since we are still in the first quarter of the year, what’s a better way to have a fresh start than to start a new job?! Sometimes us ‘yuppies’ need a change of pace or just a change of scenery due to too much stress.  If you have been reading my previous posts, I mention that I just started a new job at an architectural firm. So this is definitely coming from experience.

It being still the start of the year(sort of), its time for new adventures. I know… It may see a bit scary at first, but it’ll be worth it one way or another. I will be dropping a few tips below on how to start your new job RIGHT!

Research Your Employer

When you are entering a new job, you are bound to feel like an outcast at first. Getting out of your comfort zone is GREAT but it doesn’t mean that you can’t put a little effort to get to know the company you will be working for. Background. Bosses. Principles.

Have A Positive Mindset

Always start with a positive attitude. Yes, a new job will be scary at first, but it will definitely be a good kickstart that you might desperately need. Enter the job with no expectations but 100% willingness to learn and experience new possibilities.

Ask Questions

When entering a new job, you enter a whole new place of unknown. They will probably have a different set-up, dynamic and pay as your previous one. Never hesitate to ask a colleague or your boss anything. Your questions will only show your willingness to learn and immerse yourself in the office culture.

Plan Your Week

Having a new job doesn’t only mean that you have a new office, but new friends, new environment and new routines. Plan your week on when to spend time with your colleagues and your own personal to do lists like going to the grocery or a dinner out with your non work friends.

Update Your Wardrobe

I believe that the first impressions stick. You will inevitably be judged by what you wear and how you wear it. Lucky for me, I don’t need to come in formal attire but I do try to make a lasting impression with planning and styling my casual work outfits from time to time.

You’re all set!

How To Be Present In Your Friendships

Make one-on-one plans

Although it is always fun to meet friends in big groups or parties. But to be honest, the best time is time spent with just one other person. Crowds are good to make connections  but the real conversation lies in the engaging one on one conversations. You have different friends for different reasons, whether it be a shoulder to cry-on, a positive voice to push you further or a fun and spontaneous girlfriend. The intimate experiences are what count the most!

Send each other letters

I have been practicing this regularly when I travel, I always make it a point to send my friends postcards with meaning messages attached to it! I just love the idea of sending snail mail to a friend or a significant other. I see so much chivalry in it.

Remember important dates

Remembering birthdays is a clear requirement in every friendship. But remembering the day of their first job, the day they graduated or the day of their job promotion will strengthen your relationship. Acknowledging each other’s milestones is one, celebrating it is another.

Kick jealousy out the door

Being a yuppie(young professional), struggling to make our mark in the world; seeing others be successful in their field can get a little disheartening, especially when you are busting your ass but getting nothing out of it. Always offer your genuine excitement and support, so when the tables are turned, your friend will be there for you.

Constantly stay in touch

Staying in touch with your best friends can be tough, even with a 50 hour work week. But it is always important to reach out and let your friends know that you are thinking about them. Scheduling dinner dates or quick lunch break catch ups are great pick me ups during the work week. As for long distance friendships, planning skype or facetime dates are always a great option(oh technology!).
